One season after the Braves ended a 21-year run in Greenville, a new minor league baseball team arrived.

The Capital City Bombers of the Class A South Atlantic League moved from Columbia to Greenville, residing in Municipal Stadium in 2005.

One season later, the franchised renamed itself the Drive, moved to downtown Greenville and began play at West End Field, renamed Fluor Field at the West End in 2008.

Several Major Leaguers have played with the Drive, including pitchers John Smoltz and John Lester on rehab stints.

Former full-time Drive players on the 2010 Red Sox roster are pitchers Clay Buchholz and Daniel Bard and outfielder Josh Reddick.
